Ven Stuart Bain, Archdeacon of Sunderland Stuart is indigenous to the Diocese of Durham and has served the whole of his ministry here – 36 years. He has ministered largely in ex-mining communities some of which have been multiply challenged in a variety of ways. He has experience working with various community projects some church based but not all and latterly considerable experience in governance and strategic thinking. His passion is to see the love of Christ made real and the justice of God seen within our communities so is committed to the church rolling up its sleeves and getting our hands dirty working, with partners and all people of good will.” Treasurer. Rev Canon Sheila Bamber. Canon Provost Sunderland Minster. Sheila came to the North East as a door to door rent collector for a small Housing Association with Christian roots, met some great people with amazing resilience in the face of tough conditions, and stayed - that was 35 years ago. Now as Canon Provost at Sunderland Minster, working alongside partners in the city to make it a better place for everyone. Building relationships that help us to understand what poverty really is, and tackling attitudes and structures is as important as making sure foodbanks and holiday schemes work well - the Together Network is a great opportunity to do this important work. Other Board Members. Jon Miles. Development manager. Jon is Development Manager for CUF, working on most things to do with setting up, running and developing Together partnerships across the country, including help with governance, planning, recruitment of workers, supporting workers and trustees, network meetings and gatherings. He has a background in regeneration and community development work, and experience working in the private, public and charity sectors, as well as involvement in a range of church-based initiatives. Rev Chris Pearson. Chris holds degrees in psychology and theology. He was a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and held board level positions in both commercial companies and international charities before entering the church ministry in 2006. Having been ordained as a priest in the Church of England Chris served in a number of parishes in Durham diocese. Now retired Chris maintains a keen interest in the development of vibrant communities in his native North East Rev Canon Sue Pinnington MBE. Rector of Houghton-le-Spring Rev Dr David Whiting. URC Minister Sunderland and Boldon Partnership David is Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Sunderland and Boldon URC Partnership. David was ordained in 1986 in Barrow-in-Furness and has had a number of ministries incuding Director of Practical Theology for NEOC and Community Chaplain in Stockton-on-Tees where he headed up Teesside Industrial Mission. Kate Welch OBE DL Chief Executive Social Enterprise Acumen Kate is founder and Chief Executive of Social Enterprise Acumen CIC which supports social entrepreneurs and social enterprises. Her first social enterprise Acumen Development Trust, founded in 2003, has now supported over 16,000 long term unemployed people into employment. In 2008 she was awarded an OBE for services to Social Enterprise in the North East and in 2016 she was awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion. She is a member of the Methodist Church and Trustee of Northumberland Industrial Mission Advisor to the board. Jim Robertson. Background in higher education and training with a special interest in community development and social policy research into poverty and inequality issues. He is a member of the Faith in Our Community Project and contributes to the design and delivery of this initiatives learning programme. Jim is involved with a number of community groups and organizations across the North East region and internationally. He has particular links with different faith groups and interfaith networks.
